Microsoft made the Windows 8 Release Preview version available Thursday, marking one of the final steps before the new version of the operating system hits the streets and computers around the world. Windows 8 includes a host of new features and capabilities, and represents a big bet by Microsoft that it can keep desktop PCs a centerpiece of business and consumer computing in the age of smartphones and tablets.
