I tried changing the option but it resets all the time. Even if I set it using .reg file, even if I edit it manually (options button)

Is it normal?

Hmm just attach the *setting.reg file and tell what you're tried to do.

MATE load the settings one by one from the registry if some settings is invalid (like to long or to short/ invalid chars/range...) it restores the hardcode default. Loading stuff from the registry is the same as entering it/both use the same validation function.
